A Simple Idea That Helps Me Calm My Mind
I find the ‘The Let Them Theory’ book by Mel Robbins in my Audible library to be a very useful resource.
Whenever I get bothered/irritated by someone’s opinion, action, approval or judgement, I take15-30 minutes to relisten to parts of the book. Somehow, it has the magic to take away my emotional charge on the topic and calm me down.
The idea behind “Let Them” is so simple yet so powerful.
At its core, it reminds us of something important:
Stop trying to control other people.
Start taking full responsibility for yourself.
That’s where personal power begins.
That is self-leadership.
Three things from the book have stayed with me.
1. Do not let them cross your boundaries.
When we allow people/events/incidents to reside longer in our minds than necessary, we are allowing our valuable resources like energy, time and focus to be misused.
2. Do not let them control your choices.
We cannot fully control others even if they are our parents, spouse, or kids and even when we believe we have good reasons to do so.
So, why spend out energy trying to do so.
We can only control how we choose to respond.
3. Do not let them decide your worth.
If someone misunderstands us, disagrees with us, or even rejects us— let them. But don’t turn their opinion into your identity.
What is one piece of wisdom from the book that has stayed with you months after reading it?
